Exceptions to the Travel ban now explained by US Govt
The US State Department has now issued their guidance on what constitutes the “close ties” to the United States which the US Supreme Court says will operate as an exception to the Muslim Travel Ban (from those named six countries). Family members who are in the United States who are US Citizen children, spouses, parents, sisters and brothers will qualify as a close family member.
However, family members such as: fiancees, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and cousins are listed as family members which DO NOT COUNT AS CLOSE FAMILY MEMBERS. Most attorneys and legal experts were not expecting such a restrictive definition for family members residing in the United States.
The State of Hawaii has just announced that they are fighting this definition of “close family members” in the Federal Courts.
